Logan Takes 1st Place at Hansville Pinewood Derby

5 02 2011

Logan's Podcast NASCAR, with prime sponsor SpinalColumnRadio.com, takes first place at the GHCC Pinewood Derby

Fueled with “The Power of the Podcast,” Logan Lamar took first place at the 2011 Greater Hansville Community Center Pinewood Derby.  In NASCAR fashion, Logan’s racer was stickered up with the six different podcasts that Dad (Dr. Lamar) currently produces — with the flagship podcast, SpinalColumnRadio, prominently positioned for all to see. And to top it off, Logan wore appropriate attire.

Acting as audio-engineer, Logan helps Dad produce their smorgasbord of podcasts for the community and beyond: Spinal Column Radio, Spine BitesService Above Self Radio, Kingston Chamber Podcast, A Happy Home Podcast, and Scandia Bible Church Podcast.

In addition to Logan’s win, younger brother Clayton’s “Podcast Truck” smoked competition and took second place in an extremely close battle for first.

Good Job Boys!…. and thanks for letting us sponsor you.  😉

Kites Over Kingston A Hit!

19 04 2010

They say that the “Third Time’s a Charm.” And so it was for the 3rd Annual Kites Over Kingston that took place on April 10, 2010.  We had lots of kids, lots of kites, hot dogs, kite making, popcorn, live brass band music, sun, fun, and, of course, wind.  I was the emcee and my kids helped at the kite making table. Good ol’ Hometown Kingston Fun!

Special Thanks to my Co-chair Susan Rodgers of Design Connection for doing the majority of the “behind the scene work.” Thank you to Connie at Kingston Quilt Shop for making our wonderful Kite awards… as well as Nick over at Pizza Factory for supplying us with more straws than we needed for our Kite Making Station, and the free Mini Pizzas for our award winners.  Also thank you to our judges — Sally Christy, Rick Lanning, and Sharon Nuss.  Oh, and then there’s Pete DeBoer for allowing us the use of his personal PA system.

Kites Over Kingston is sponsored by the Events Committee of your Kingston Chamber of Commerce.

Check out the slide show below.  It’s like you were there!

Support your local Rotary Club and have a blast doing it!

old mill days rotary

We at the Kingston Rotary Club will rolling up our sleeves as Port Gamble rings in Autumn with their 4th Annual Old Mill Days.

You’ll find us in the Pavillion Tent serving up tasty Bratwurst lunches and dinners with an “Oktoberfest flare.”  Bring the whole family!

As one Seattle Blogger put it,  “where else could you possibly witness fireworks, steam donkey logging and belly dancing all in one location? This will be a lot of fun and a great way to kick off autumn.”  Hope to see you there!

Check out the video below and visit the Old Mill Days website for more information.

Kathleen Sutton Inspirational Fund

14 09 2009

I remember when I first stepped foot in Kingston back in 1996, Kathleen Sutton was the first person I met.  Before long, I was sitting at her breakfast table in her kitchen at a Chamber of Commerce board meeting wondering how I had got there.  Six years later, she passed on the reigns of the Chamber Presidency to me.

For me, like so many that knew her, Kathleen left an impression and was truly an inspiration.  While Kathleen may not have triumphed her six year battle with breast cancer, her memory charges on and continues to inspire those who are touched by the work of the Kathleen Sutton Inspirational Fund — helping others “win” the breast cancer battle by assisting with their travel and ferry costs associated with receiving treatment.

We encourage you to join us in getting behind this great, local, cause by attending —or donating to— their 7th Annual Auction on October 3, 2009.
